The tremendous advantage of narrow boat holidays is that once you have been through our extensive ‘Introduction and Training Programme’, you really are masters of your own holiday destiny.
As long as you follow the principles of the tuition process presented by your friendly and knowledgeable trainer, the Waterways Code and use your common sense, you will have a great time on your canal holiday. To help you further we have produced some Cruising notes and canal routes to help you to plan your holiday which can be viewed by clicking here. This wonderful time on the waterways can be enjoyed at your own pace, one of the many benefits of a narrowboat holiday.
There is no need to get anywhere in a hurry, there are no targets. You aren’t really trying to get anywhere as such. The whole principle is about you winding down. It’s about sharing your time together, it’s about working as a team and crewing the boat, it is about seeing life from a new or totally different perspective. This is the ultimate holiday for relaxation.

The maps that you can view (click here) show some canal routes information along the Trent and Mersey Canal from your base at Sawley Marina. This fascinating waterway surprises you at every corner, at every lock and at every milestone. Cruise under bridges, moor up next to pubs, exercise your legs on the towpath and breathe in the deep country air. The extent of your cruising routes will be determined by both your holiday duration and hours of daylight.
