Leisurely canal cruise options from Sawley marina.
7 night route map.
As the 3 day advanced canal route, but Great Heywood is easily achievable, with perhaps a day at Shugborough Hall, the seat of Lord Lichfield. The surrounding countryside offers some excellent rambling options. Milford, a little further on is a delightful village, which offers the opportunity to cross Tixall wide, a broad section of canal and then Brindleys Aqueduct over the River Sow. Winding can be undertaken at Milford Bridge. Those taking the canal route south on the Coventry might want to spend a day at Drayton Manor Park or alternatively cruise east through to Alvecote and explore the remains of the Benedictine Priory there. Winding can be undertaken at Alvecote. Advanced crews, cruising the Soar, can continue onto the Grand Union and reach the enchanting town of Market Harborough, a few miles along its own dedicated arm. See the famous Foxton locks and the inclined plane, now under restoration.
Please note that cruising along the River Soar is weather dependent.
In the event of potentially high water levels, you will cruise along the highly attractive Trent & Mersey canal. The above is intended purely as a 7 night route guide. Cruising times, options and distances are subject to prevailing conditions and personal choice. Please note that the final permitted turning/winding point for our boats in Nottingham is just before Meadow Lane Lock. Cruising eastward on the Trent beyond this point is prohibited in all circumstances.
